The beginning….

My first post…

I remember waaaaaay back in 2004 when I first heard about blogs. I didn’t know what they were… but I wanted to post one. So, using myspace, I created my first blog… and in it I ranted about ‘what is a blog?’ and also about ‘how I would not buy an HDTV until they had the Food Network and CSPAN2 available in hi-def’… obviously I was trying to be funny.

Years later I find myself watching the Food Network HD with my wife for several hours week… and Ina looks great

Although I am still waiting for CSPAN to come around, it is amazing how much has changed in the last 5 years….

I have graduated from OSU with a BS degree in Biology. I started my own photography business. I fell in love with a lovely woman, Lyndsey. I had my dog Turk die. I welcomed a new dog ‘Mc’ into my life to fill the hole that Turk left behind. I got a full time job as a photo stylist at A&F’s headquarters. I got engaged (to that lovely woman). I bought a house. This May I got married.

Life rolls on… and really quickly.

This blog will be a place to hear from me about what is bouncing around in my head, and it will be a place to see things that I am shooting. It is hard for me to keep my website up to date, so I figured this would be an easier way to go about keeping the public in touch with what I am working on.

I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to post any comments you might have!

Along with the weddings, and personal projects I am shooting, I will also be sharing films that I am working on (yeah I know i’m not shooting with film, but video makes it sound like something your mom shot on her 1980s camcorder).

I am not sure where God is leading me, but I have a strong pull towards cinematography. I find myself learning a lot about composition, form, and lighting with the weddings I shoot. Hopefully I will be able to take the eye that I have developed and use it for ‘movin’ pictures one day.

I can’t wait to look back to this point 5 years from now, and see how much has changed.

It’s going to be a wild ride

Here is to the next 5 years……

Hi Ben! It is very nice to see this - I came to know about you in Tokyo. Although lived in Columbus for 3 years. I just loved your photos. Would be very interesting how you shoot things in Japan...

Ward Miles – First Year
A year from yesterday Ward came home. 32 years from today his mother was born. I made this for both of these special days as a surprise for his mother, Lyndsey This is a story of a mother's love for her baby... It sums up my son's first year. He was born way too early, and the obstacles he had to overcome were really big, but not bigger than our God. Many of you have not seen Ward like this. You have seen pictures. You have read a lot of posts. But, I think this video will show just how small he was when he was born, and how sick he was. I didn't hold back when editing. I didn't just include cute clips. There are some nasty momen ...

Fun of SAM
Having dogs is like having children. The second one never gets as much attention as the first one. You have gone overboard with the first one and by the time the second one comes along you no longer feel like documenting everything. I didn't want that to happen to Samson. Although Mc, our frist ridgeback, naturally ends up in front of the camera more due to his persona and expressive eyes, Samson definitely has a personality of his own, which is worth capturing. In this video you will see Sam the very first time we saw him, his first day at our house, Mc's impression of the new guy and also wondering if he is going to stay. The second half ...

New Years
My good friend Carl has a cabin in southern Ohio that is over a 100 years old. It was the perfect place to spend New Years eve. A bunch of friends. No TV. Games. Drinks. Laughs. And some wood chopping. This is the first video I ever made with my 5D MkII. I just shot a lot of random stuff. When I got home and saw the footage, I thought it would be cool to edit a video to 'Big Rock Candy Mountain'... which I had heard on 'Oh Brother Where Art Thou' Although the footage isn't a little shaky... and rather random... I think the fun of the day comes across really well. A side note on the song: I love the fact that even though he slips and says ' ...
