Millwick Wedding Southern California - Late Night Street

Wedding Video and Photography at Millwick in Southern CA | Jenn + Dan

Los Angeles is quite the character. Her streets always bustling, her people always moving, her buildings glimmering in the rising and setting sun. Some love it here. Some hate it here. Millwick is a gem in the center of its concrete heart.

Being in Los Angeles is like playing golf. It has the ability to drive you mad, causing you to swear you will leave and never come back, but then a few moments later you will discover a charm that can be found nowhere else, which will leave you wanting to come back. You may play a horrible round of golf and then hit just ONE shot on 18 that is decent enough to make you smile and walk to the parking lot feeling like a champ.

When I flew in for Jenn and Dan’s wedding, the image of LA I had burned in my mind was instantly erased the moment we came over the mountains. No longer was it a pale brown, but a vibrant, Oz-like green. I had never seen her like this. The recent rain has brought the surrounding hills out of dormancy and a color has washed over them that has been absent for years. I asked locals when the last time was that they saw the hills this green, most said 20+ years, some said they have never seen it this green. I can see why settlers would be drawn to it and never want to leave.

Dan and Jenn hired me to do both photography and a film for them. My brother lives in LA so it was easy to bring him on board to help. I met the couple the night of their rehearsal and instantly picked up on their warmth. They are both sort of quiet, but can surprise you and be really loud a moment later, especially Jenn. I knew I liked them right away.

The wedding day started at a hotel downtown, but the rest of the day was spent at Millwick just down the road. You could drive past the venue a hundred times and never know the beauty that lay beyond the unassuming walls. The outdoor space at Millwick is vibrant, with plants covering the walls and lights crossing each way. The interior connects to the outside via two large garage doors that can easily be opened or closed, depending on the temperature. Jennifer did an amazing job with all of the details, from the tables and place settings to the flowers and catering. Millwick was such a gorgeous space.

The ceremony and cocktail hour both took place outside, followed by dinner and dancing inside. It was an awesome day and I am really happy with how the photos and video turned out. I think you will get a good sense for what these two are like by the end. The last 30 seconds may change your view of Dan abruptly when you see him cutting it up on the dance floor!

Jeremy & Amanda
Jeremy and Amanda have things straight. I could sense from them early on just how important this day was. From the excitement beforehand, to the happiness when seeing each other for the first time, they were pumped. During the ceremony they had a great moment when all of the bridal party gathered around them on the stage and Chris Tomlin's 'Our God' blared through the sound system. It was a great choice, and signified their strong love of God. Jeremy and Amanda are also photographers who shoot weddings, so it was an honor straight from the get-go that they chose me. I will admit it makes it a little more stressful knowing you have some artsy ...

Josh & Brittany
Josh and Brittany will fool you. They seem very quiet and shy up front, and I could tell that they were not used to being in the spotlight, and had a very laid back demeanor. However, these people know how to party! For their first dance they surprised everyone when after halfway through the traditional song they broke out into a custom dance that they have been working on for months to the track of "Bringin' Sexy Back" haha... needless to say the place went nuts and Josh and Brittany just soaked it all up. They were made for this! This was my first wedding of the year... I hope the rest of my couples will be as friendly and fun as they were. ...

Paul and Hilary
Paul and Hilary had a brilliant wedding with lots of fun and laughter. Hilary was beaming the whole day, and Paul had a smirk on his face like he knew he was getting the better half of the deal (no to take away from Paul... but she is gorgeous). I had a lot of fun shooting this wedding, and the locations they chose for getting ready and photos were great. Anytime I can get out of a hotel room and into something different I am happy. They got ready at a house in German Village, which sadly is no longer allowing wedding parties to get ready there. This is probably my favorite wedding of the year so far and I am sure the photos will do their d ...
