Kauai, Hawaii Wedding Video and Photography | Melissa + Sam
I was so excited when Melissa and Sam hired me to shoot their Hawaii Wedding. For one, I had never been to Hawaii, it is the only state I had not been to. Yep, I have been to all the other states, including Alaska. Me and 5 other guys drove a Honda Odyssey from Ohio to Alaska and back in 5 days back in 2006, but that is another story.
Besides getting to finally go to Hawaii, I was getting to go to what I have heard to be the best of the islands, Kauai. Besides going to Kauai and shooting the wedding, I was going to get to hang out with them for the whole week and join them on all sorts of fun activities. Our first day had us viewing the scenery from the air as we took a helicopter all over the island, thanks to Jack Harter and our pilot Harry. It was an amazing experience and I would highly advise anyone going to the islands to book a ride in the state bird. After this, we relaxed poolside and soaked up some sun. The next day we took a private boat to the Northwestern side of the island to see the Na Poli coastline up close. Along the
The next day we took a private boat to the Northwestern side of the island to see the Na Poli coastline up close. Along the way, we enjoyed the view, felt the breeze on our face, and nestled up close to a large pod of 300 or more porpoises as they jumped through the air and surfaced over and over. At one point Melissa and Same were able to get their hands on them as they laid on the front of the catamaran. Once at the coastline, we stopped for a quick snorkel along a reef and after lunch headed home.
On Friday we lucked out with an amazing location. We got access to a coastal property on the north side of Kauai and were able to do the first look and get a lot of photos of the two of them in their wedding attire. They had to leave to get back to their family, but a few of us were able to stick around and enjoy the pool and the views. It was absolutely spectacular! I asked someone working on the property what the place was worth and was told ‘between $16-18 million.’ Whoa!
The wedding day was just perfect. Clouds threatened, but no rain would fall until late into the evening. The ceremony was held on the beach looking south into a bay with beautiful green hills in the background. The reception was held outdoors close by and the party went well into the night.
The wedding film is being worked on right now, but I figured I could share the photos! Check back soon for the film.
